What is it? The Subaru BRZ Concept-STI previews an upcoming rear-drive coupe co-developed with Toyota and to also be sold through the Scion brand. This concept shown at the LA Auto Show illustrates the potential, both visual and mechanical, should the STI performance team at Subaru be let loose on the production coupe.
The BRZ will likely use a more powerful version of the new naturally aspirated, direct-injection, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine first offered in the redesigned Impreza. The flat-four engine is mounted low and behind the front wheels to lower the car’s center of gravity, and thereby aid handling and weight distribution.
What’s new or notable? The concept car has a suspension tuned by the STI performance/motorsports division, with Brembo brakes and 18-inch wheels and tires at the corners. The 2+2 coupe on display has a carbon-fiber roof, aero-tuned lower front spoiler, and vented rear bumper.
When will it be available? Spring 2012.
