What is it? With aggressive sports car styling, 395-hp, and rear-wheel drive, the Kia GT concept represents a departure for the South Koresan automaker on several levels. And get used to the look: Kia says the four-door concept provides a glimpse into some styling cues to expect in upcoming models.

First shown this fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the low-slung GT rides on a 122.6-inch wheelbase, which works out to about 2.5 inches longer than that of the Optima family sedan. But it’s about seven inches shorter in overall length and four inches lower. Still, Kia says there’s plenty of headroom for four adults in bucket seats, and access is made easier by doors that swing upward as they open.

Power comes from a 3.3-liter, 395-hp turbocharged V6 with direct injection, matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

CR's take: Recent Kia redesigns, including the Optima sedan and Sorento SUV, have shown big improvements, scored well in our testing, and been a hit with buyers. It remains to be seen if the world is ready for a Kia sports car, but the concept shows potential.
