Consumer Reports auto experts report from the 2011 North American Auto Show in Detroit.
Toyota Prius C
What is it? Toyota says the Prius C will be an entry-level hybrid, for young singles and couples who want a hybrid with maximum fuel economy at a minimal price. It will be the fourth Prius in Toyotas Prius hybrid lineup.

CR's take: If Toyota sees the Prius C as an "entry level hybrid," it is presumably designed to compete with the slightly cheaper Honda Insight and CR-Z. Honda and other automakers who have gunned to undercut the standard Priuss price tag use cheaper hybrid drive systems that don't achieve the mileage of Toyota's bigger Prius. The Prius C could promises to be cheaper, smaller, and more fuel efficient.

When will it be available? Mid-year 2012
