What is it? Volvo unveiled the sleek S60 in New York. All cars sold in the U.S. will be T6 models with a 300 hp, turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing 325 pound feet of torque. The transmission will be a six-speed automatic with standard all-wheel-drive at first. Lesser versions with front-wheel-drive only will follow later.
What's new or notable? A new pedestrian detection system will be standard. It uses radar and cameras to detect a person walking in front of the car and automatically applies the brakes. It can bring the car to a full stop at speeds up to 22 mph even if the driver doesnt step on the brakes. At higher speeds the vehicle will slow down the car as much as possible reducing to minimize injury potential.
When will it be available? Third quarter of 2010.
