What is it? Nissan has updated its high-performance GT-R coupe for the 2012 model year, adding power and freshening its appearance with functional enhancements.

Output from the 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 climbs from 485 horsepower to 530 horsepower for the new model year, with a significant torque gain from 434 lb.-ft. to 488 lb.-ft. Several measures contribution to the power increases, including tweaking the turbo boost pressure, adjusting the valve timing, fine tuning the air mixture, and reducing intake and exhaust pressure.

The exterior is distinguished with a new front and rear fascia that contributes to a slight reduction in aerodynamic drag while routing more cooling air to the engine and brakes.

The interior benefits from upgraded materials and carbon-fiber trim. A Black Edition adds red-trimmed Recaro seats, and additional black and red cabin dressing.

Performance comes at a price, with the Premium model listed at $89,950 and the Black Edition stickering at $95,100.

When will it be available? Early 2011.
