What is it? The Fiesta will be available in a sedan or hatchback powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine estimated to deliver an EPA-rated 40 mpg in highway driving. A manual transmission will be standard, but a new six-speed automatic will be available.
The interior features a solid, upscale feel with soft-touch dash and quality switchgear. High-end Fiestas will offer a leather interior. Safety features include front, side and curtain air bags, as well as a driver knee baga first for the class. Stability control is also standard.
CR take: During a brief drive of the European version in Dearborn last winter, we came away impressed with the Fiesta's agility, steering and ride control. A pleasant interior is a breath of fresh air in this class. The Fiesta will also offer Fords voice-activated Sync communication system, keyless entry and push-button start and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel.
When will it be available? May 2010
