Consumer Reports auto experts report from the 2010 Chicago Auto Show.
Ford Shelby GT500
What is it? The 2011 edition of the GT500 is lighter and gets a new 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine. This powerplant will crank out 550 horsepower and put 510 pound-feet of torque on the ground. Ford estimates that the Shelby will get 23 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg in the city.

What's new or notable? The new GT500's engine is made from an aluminum alloy and is 102 pounds lighter than the previous engine. This weight reduction should help improve performance and fuel economy. A glass rooftop is optional and an SVT performance package includes painted aluminum wheels, suspension upgrades, exclusive design cues, and a unique gear shifter knob.
