What is it? Lincoln introduced its new three-row crossover vehicle,
providing a step-up option from its MKX. It will be offered in six- and
seven-passenger configurations. The second row offers heated outboard seats,
as well as a powered flip-and-fold bucket seat variation with heat, cooling,
and power lumbar adjustment.
The large crossover will come a 268-horsepower, 3.7-liter V6. More
performance will be available from a twin-turbocharged, direct-injection
3.5-liter engine producing 355 horsepower. Both engines are combined with a
six-speed automatic transmission. The MKT is front or all-wheel drive.
What is new or notable? Available technology features include
adaptive cruise control, collision warning, keypad entry, adaptive
headlamps, MyKey parental control, blind spot monitor, cross traffic alert
to assist backing up, Sync, and THX-certified audio system.
CR's take: Think of this as a Ford Flex, but more voluptuous than voluminous. Like the Flex, it will be offered with an optional direct-injection turbocharged V6. With a plush interior, lots of amenities, and three rows of seats, the MKT should compete for the same buyers as the Buick Enclave. The retro styling impairs rear visibility and seat room, and it ultimately may prove polarizing--it hasnt grown on us yet.
When will it be available? Summer 2009.
