What are they? The high performance versions of Jaguars XF sedan and XK coupe get a new, larger, supercharged 510-hp, 5.0-liter V8 engine with direct injection in place of the 4.2 liter, matched with a strengthened six-speed automatic transmission. The carmaker says the powertrain will enable the XKR to accelerate from 0-60 in 4.6 seconds, and the XFR to do the same in 4.7 seconds. Both also get a revised suspension, along with larger brakes and calipers emblazoned with the "R" logo, along with quicker steering and twenty-inch wheels. Exterior tweaks include new front end designs with aggressive air intakes and functional hood vents for both models. The XFR also gets unique front fenders and side sills, a rear spoiler, and new rear bumper with four exhaust outlets. Inside, theres wood and dark aluminum trim, a sport steering wheel, and leather sport seats emblazoned with the R logo.
What is new or notable? An electronically controlled limited slip rear differential uses an electric motor and multi-plate clutch to deliver more power to whichever rear tire has the most grip.
When will they be available? March 2009
