Standard safety features include electronic stability control and six airbagsdual front, seat-mounted side, and side curtain airbags. A rear backup camera is optional.

The Equinox will come with OnStar and XM Satellite Radio, and it will offer Bluetooth connectivity, DVD entertainment system, USB audio input.

What's new or notable? The 2.4-liter engine is expected to deliver 25 percent better fuel economy over the previous model. (The last Equinox we tested returned 18 mpg overall.) EPA estimates are 30 mpg highway and 21 city.

When will it be available? Mid-2009.
